Artist's Comments

shooting for color technique, theme is legs coming from random places.

i think this idea is what i'm going to use for my final portfolio. should be submitting quite a few of these images in the upcoming couple of months.

me in my dorm room...all that stuff is mine pretty much : ]

oh, and title is from an emily dickinson poem, go figure.

do the socks look familiar? heh : ]

I like this quite a bit; though I do have a small issue with the framing of the shot... perhaps that is due to the brightness of the flash off of the white sheet, and the folds of the sheets on the bed being cut off. I do, on the other hand, like how all of the "stuff" is framed!

It's good that you did not split the image in the middle, and favored the floor.

The legs are certainly an interesting contrast to the chaos of "stuff" and I think it works.

Exposure is 7/10 just becasue of the sheets. Comp. is easy 8/10... overall I would say this is a very good shot and a great concept.

Vision: Obviously, the floor is quite busy with shapes, colors and textures. Thus, the simplicity and singularity of the legs provide a strong contrast and an easy focal point. The vignetting also highlights the point of view, focusing on these legs. As far as theme/concept is concerned, I think the content of the image reflects the title well and the filter tone sets a mood of antiquity.

Originality: I certainly don't think that I've ever seen this particular perspective and subject before. Definitely, I agree that it makes a humorous subject for a series.

Technique: The pose features the legs well and creates an attractive and contrasting shape. Your lighting pulls the eyes toward the center of top center of the frame and allows focus on the legs without distraction from the clutter. The only criticism is that find the sheets cast a harsh glare, but otherwise the composition is excellent.

Impact: I feel the image creates an appropriate mood and establishes a sense of nostalgia. Your composition creates impact well by catching the eye with the contrasts.

Were you cleaning out stuff from under the bed?:lmao:
Nice concept and execution. Think I would prefer if the random clutter continued under the legs. Just a thought ...

I don't know what kind of camera you have, but you might want to look into a wireless remote shutter release. It would give you more time to get in position for these self shots. I found one for my D300 on ebay. It's not an official Nikon product (Chinese knockoff) but it works up to 120 feet away and for $20, you can't beat the price.

A D700, sweet. How long will you have to wait for the upgrade?

That's a lot of time for anticipation.:petting:
But you'll be thrilled when it finally gets here. I went from a completely worn out D1H (just 2.7 megapixels) to the D300 and fell in love.
